Tuck shop owner pistol-whipped and robbed

Everest – A 26-year-old tuck shop owner was attacked in his home by three men at about 10.30am on Sunday.

According to Springs police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the complainant was asleep in his Gugulethu Everest home, with his partner and child, when the incident occurred.

He was awakened by the sound of people talking outside.

“The complainant looked outside the window to see who was outside, and three suspects then attempted to push open the door of his shack, while the victim tried to block it from the inside.

“The trio fired some shots and managed to push open the door.

“They assaulted the man by hitting him over the head and body with a steel pipe, and also hit him in the face with a firearm,” says Ramphora.

He adds the suspects demanded money from the man, which he handed over.

The suspects also took his tuck shop stock and some clothing before fleeing the scene.

The injured man managed to get help from his neighbours and was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical attention.

Ramaphora says the partner and child were unharmed.

Cases of house robbery and assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm were opened at the Springs Police Station.

No arrests have been made.
