Local cyclists take on challenge

Kwatsaduza – Three Kwatsaduza cyclists participated in the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge that took place in Johannesburg last Sunday.

City Hlophe, Mandla Ndaba and Thabang Mashona are all members of the Kwatsaduza Cycle Club.

The cyclists say this is their third time participating in the challenge and that they are very happy with the times they achieved.

Hlophe says he experienced some challenges in the first 15km and last 10km of the race as it was steep and tested his fitness and stamina levels.

“The steep areas are always a challenge, especially if you are not used to cycling in steep areas. I enjoyed the race and will definitely participate again next year to try and beat my time of 3h46min,” he says.

Ndaba managed to complete the race in 4h10min which he says is an achievement for him as the cut off time for the race was seven hours.

“We are still amateurs in the sport, with no formal training, the fact that we could complete the race without giving up is a great achievement for us,” says Ndaba.
