For the love of fashion

The three, who hail from Tsakane, are young clothing designers.

Tsagane was the mastermind behind the idea of starting his own clothing brand in 2012.

He says that, since his parents could not always afford what he wanted, he started creating the clothing he wished for.

“I wanted to change the world by means of my clothing, so I started a label called Jt Solo, however, in 2013 I changed the name to uMswenko 2 000, as I believed it was a local name and would be familiar to most people.

“In 2014 I met ‘Slick’, who is the owner of a clothing brand, also from Tsakane, and we worked together and combined our labels, calling the business Slickem 2 000,” he says.

This year Tsagane encountered his other two partners and they hit it off, since they were all passionate about clothing, and started working together.

“We design and create different styles of clothing and do anything people want, from head to toe, including clothing and accessories,” says Mabitsela.

“We bring something new and something that’s never been seen before and we love this as it keeps us busy and from having time to do wrong things.”

“Through it, we are also gaining experience about the industry and the economy, as we make items on our own and with our own money,” adds Mhlanga.

The team says the challenge they face is that they have to sacrifice their pocket money for everything they do.

But, they confidently say, people love the brand and buy their creations.

Due to not having proper operating space, the team is currently working from Tsagane’s home, but they have plans to move to a workshop in Extension 11, soon.

“Next year we are planning on hosting an Arts and Hip-hop Fashion Show, mixed with artists, to expose young talent,” says Tsagane.
