Ekurhuleni mayor visits Springs Taxi Rank

Springs – Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele visited the Top Centre Taxi Rank on Monday, as part of his service delivery visit.

The visit was led by Philip Malaphe from the Customer Relations Management office in Springs.

Gungubele spoke to officials from the Springs Taxi Association (STA), who voiced their complaints regarding poor service delivery in

the two ranks in Springs

The Top Centre Rank has problems with toilets, shelter and a lack of maintenance.

Thomas Kabini, STA public relations officer, says both male and females use the same toilets because the male toilet is dilapidated.

“Taxi owners had to contribute money so we could fix one toilet so commuters could at least relieve themselves,” says Kabini.

He says they had to employ someone to clean the toilet.

Kabini further says the rank has no shelter for commuters, and when it rains, people get wet while waiting in queues.

“When its night time there is no light at the taxi rank, this gives criminals the chance to mug people who are making use of the rank,” says Kabini.

He adds they would appreciate these issues being attended to by the municipality.

Gungubele says the poor condition in which the ranks are in is not fair to people who use them on a daily basis.

“Taxi ranks should also be dignified and people should be able to use basic facilities and feel safe in taxi ranks,” says Gungubele.
