Organisations help school learners face challenges

Daveyton – Shabach School Ministry, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni Faith-Based Organisation, is presenting crisis management programmes in secondary schools in and around Etwatwa.

The programme started two weeks ago and only two more schools need to be visited.

This follows the recent community and gang-related violence in the area.

According to Pastor Meshack Tabudi, founder of the Shabach School Ministry, they felt the need to intervene and root out the problems that lead youngsters to join dangerous gangs.

Tabudi elaborates that some children are not guided and are, therefore, easily misled, and that is when the community must step in to mentor them.

The programme focuses on anger management, so learners are able to understand and deal with anger before it escalates.

“As an organisation, we wanted to raise awareness and educate learners in schools about anger management and how it may help them to not become involved in criminal activities,” says Tabudi.

He further states that the crisis management programme uses a five-point approach system that focuses on education, skills, spiritual coaching, edutainment and mentoring.

“The youth of today need to be guided and mentored in various aspects of life, so they are able to face challenges and not resort to criminal activities,” he explains.
