Local beauty eyes Miss SA crown

Daveyton - Kabelo Mashiane (21), from Daveyton, is a Top 25 semi-finalist in the Miss South Africa 2016 pageant.

Mashiane, who was born and bred in the area, attended Sozizwe Primary School and then proceeded to Benoni Primary School, where she completed Grade Seven.

She then attended Liverpool Secondary School in Actonville.

“Currently, I am studying a six-month management assistance course at the Ekurhuleni East College, and teach modelling at the Rampage Modelling Agency,” she says.

“I have also registered to study towards a Bachelor of Education degree with UNISA next year, as I want to become a teacher.”

She says her journey in the pageant started in July when she completed the entry forms.

Mashiane says she was confident she could go far in the competition.

On September 18, she received an email saying she had made it through to the semi-finals, which she is really happy about.

“My parents are my greatest inspiration as they have taught me a lot, including that all my dreams are achievable and that I need to nurture my attitude, beliefs and people around me,” she says.

“They have also taught me that material objects are not a mechanism for me to measure my worth by or others.

“I thank my family for being so supportive of me and my ambitions.”

Mashiane says she wants to become Miss South Africa because she is passionate about the country.

She also believes the title will provide her with an excellent platform to make a difference, so she can serve other people using her skills.

“Young girls should strive to always enhance their knowledge and skills so that that they can empower themselves,” Mashiane says.

“As South Africans, let us love and be proud of our heritage, customs and diversity of culture and religion.”

From September 27 to October 8, the finalists have been busy with a programme which includes attending workshops, gym and interviews among other things.

Twelve contestants will compete in March for the title of Miss South Africa 2016.
