Youth educated through sports

Duduza - Love Life partnered with the Social and Health Development and other NPOs, to celebrate Heritage Month, last Saturday, at the Duduza Stadium. by hosting a fun walk, followed by a sports day.

The day started with a fun walk awareness against substance abuse, violence and other social issues that are faced within the community of Duduza.

“Since it’s Heritage Month and we are celebrating where we come from as people, we saw fit to engage our youth through arts and culture and sports,” says Kamogelo Skosana, from Social and Heath Development.

“Most importantly, we wanted the youth to also educate themselves about the social ills that are facing them as the future generation.”

He adds that most of the young people are still not aware of programmes that are offered by NPOs and the government, and that are there to assist young people who want to further their studies and run their own NPOs.

“We want the youth to utilise the opportunities that they are granted and, through such events, we inform them about how they can go about applying and benefiting from programmes,” Skosana says.

Young professionals came to motivate and guide the youth on choosing careers and applying for bursaries.

The day ended with young people playing different sporting codes such as tennis, basketball and chess.
