Domestic violence campaign kicks off

KwaThema - Members the KwaThema Police Station started a door-to-door awareness campaign on September 1.

Col Martie van der Walt, acting spokesman, says they plan to visit every house or shack to make women aware of what to do if they are abused.

“The campaign is about educating the community about domestic violence,” she says.

Police have visited about 120 houses since the start of the campaign.

Since September 1, four cases of domestic violence have been opened, followed by two arrests.

Van der Walt says police depend on the assistance of the community to fight crime.

She urges women not to walk alone between midnight and 6am.
