Fashion designer hopes to make an impact

Daveyton - Sarah Madingwana, founder of The Design Parliament (TDP), will be heading to Kenya in November to showcase her designs at Nairobi Fashion Week.

The 21-year-old law student from Basotho Section in Daveyton says she has always been creative at heart and also has a passion for law.

TDP is not only a fashion house but an umbrella of other artistic spheres such as fine art, photography and branding.

Soon they will be doing interior design.

Madingwana prides herself on the fact that in only 12 months, TDP received an Ekurhuleni Mayoral Award in the category, Youth Owned Business on the Move.

“That award proved to me that I was on the right track and it pushed me to continue what I was doing,” says Madingwana.

TDP has also showcased on a number of local runways and were part of the seventh African Youth and Governance Conference held at the Pan African Parliament.

She explains that she applied to be part of the Nairobi Fashion Week because she wants her clothing line to have a an impact all around Africa and reach a bigger market.

“I want my brand to be known in the whole of Africa and I will attend as many fashion events as I can, in order for my line to be known” says Madingwana.

Her future plans involve her continuing to produce quality products, owning a retail store and running her own magazine.
