Tsakane – Three kettles of boiling water were allegedly poured over a toddler in Skhumbane Street, Extension 18, on Sunday at 9pm.
The two-year-old was found dead the following morning.
The father allegedly took the toddler to the bathroom and put the child in the bath.
In the presence of the mother, he poured boiling water over the child.
Tsakane police spokesman WO Jonas Sithole claims the mother then put the child in the bed between the two of them and went to sleep.
When they woke up they discovered the child was dead.
Neighbours noticed the grieving parents the following morning and reported the incident to the police.
The 26-year-old father and 23-year-old mother were arrested on Monday.
They remain in custody at the Tsakane Police Station.
