Women talk about drug abuse
KwaThema - The department of social development, in partnership with the KwaThema Local Drugs Action Committee, hosted a Women Against Substance Abuse summit.
The summit was held on Friday, at the KwaThema Old Age Centre.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Nthabiseng Mokoena says the event is aimed encouraging women not to give up on their children on drugs, but to help them fight against the abuse of drugs in their homes.
She says they understand that parents who live with drugs addicts in their homes are worried about the future of their children.
Mokeana adds that the day is also aimed at assuring the parents and families of the addicts that the community is also concerned about drugs abuse.
“We need to stand together and to fight against drugs,” she says, adding that, because it is Women’s Month, the government and the local organisations work together to bring hope to the lives of the addicts.
On the day women were also taught about the signs of someone using drugs.
Mokoena reveals that there are parents who live in fear of their children on drugs, because they abuse them.
One of the women who attended the summit, Christina Msimang (53), says it is encouraging to know that the community is getting involved in a fight against the challenges faced by residents, including drugs abuse.
She appeals to youth organisations to continue educating young people about the consequences of using drugs.
