We are women of strength

Kwatsaduza - The month of August marks a very important day in the history of South Africa, where we celebrate the courageous women who marched to the Union Building in 1950 to fight against the pass law that was meant to segregate people according to their race.

We thank those women who have paved a way for us, the women of today, to continue with the fight against any gender and racial segregation.

The world has evolved and things have changed, we as women have important roles to play in our different work spheres and communities, making us equivalent to our male counterparts.

We can’t deny the fact that there are still issues of women being discriminated against merely because of their gender.

Even us as women do this to each other without realising so.

A woman will respect and adhere to her male boss, but will have a different attitude and approach to her female boss.

Why this happens, I don’t know, but it’s a issue that needs to be addressed in our society.

We have chauvinist males that we need to deal with, and we, as women, need to unite and show that we are one in this journey of equality.

I still don’t get why some men think we are not capable to take care of business and other important issues in the community.

Women belong in parliament, boardrooms and construction sites just like men, and men must understand that just because I’m a woman, I’m not any weaker.

There is one phrase that I dislike and I hear a lot of women using it nowadays, ‘Act like a lady, think like a man’.

If I’m thinking like a man when will I get the time to think like a woman?

These are statements that indirectly say a woman’s thinking isn’t strong enough compared to that of a man.

I beg to differ, we are fine thinking as women, if every woman had to think like a man, I’m not sure what the world would be like.

All I’m saying is we need to embrace our femininity and stop bashing ourselves, we have come too far for us to lose track of our purpose.

We are strong, we are rocks, we are one, we are women.
