Manholes give off bad stench
Geluksdal – Paulina Skosana (63), an Extension Three resident, is tired of the stench which is coming from the manholes in her yard.
Skosana moved into her RDPhouse in 2010, with her daughter and two grandchildren, in the hope that they would enjoy their new home.
To her surprise, the house had three manholes inside the yard, which sometimes get blocked and overflow.
Her house is also right next to a stream which floods when there is a major rainfall.
She claims that she has spoken to the municipality and the councillor about these issues but nothing has been done yet.
“I’m not safe in my own house. I have to cope with the bad odour that is given off by these manholes,” says Skosana, adding that she fears that the stench will pose a health hazard to her family and herself in future.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
