Soldiers spend 67 minutes at Emmaus Community Centre

Duduza - Dunnottar soldiers cleaned the Emmaus Community Centre in honour of Mandela Day.

Members of the 35 Engineer Support Regiment spend their 67 minutes for Mandela Day, cleaning the Emmaus Community Centre.

On Friday, July 17, the soldiers brought assorted vegetable seeds that will be planted to assist the centre with the 625 meals they provide daily.

The soldiers also cleaned the centre’s windows and donated party packs to children in the centre.

Captain Cynthia Zondo said that after their visit to the centre last year, they were determined to return to and clean the centre again this year. “There was overgrown grass that needed to be cut,” said Zondo.

Sonia Malinga, centre manager, thanked the soldiers for spending their 67 minutes with them and for making the lives of the orphans and the vulnerable children a bit brighter.

She said the soldiers’ visit did not only put a smile on the faces of the children but it also convinced a few to become soldiers too.

Malinga invited the 35 Engineer Support Regiment to spend their 67 minutes with the centre again next year.
