Gogo wants her RDP done

Duduza- Swelindawo Dlamini (52) has been sitting with building material in her home for the past four months.

Dlamini, who resides in Extension Three with her family, has been patiently waiting for contractors to start building her RDP house.

She claims contractors come to her home in February, and delivered building material and erected a cement slab for the house.

“They just told me that my RDP house would be constructed soon,” she says.

Months later, she has not heard from either the contractors or the council about the way forward.

According to Dlamini, the building material inside her home is affecting the family’s living condition and health.

“I have been in and out hospitals, because one of my grandchildren has asthma and the cement inside the house is irritating his chest,” she says.

She claims she has been to the municipal offices to find out what is delaying the construction of her house, but she is not given a straight response.

Dlamini fears that, if she moves the material outside, criminals will steal it at night.

“I was happy that my house was finally being built, but I didn’t anticipate such challenges,” she says.

Ward councillor Silas Lestimo was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
