No more dark nights in Extension 10

Tsakane - Last Thursday, the DA's Brakpan Constituency donated solar bulbs to residents of Extension 10, in Tsakane.

Kenneth Manana (52), a DA activist, handed over the bulbs to community members.

Manana, who also resides in Extension 10, explained the need for the solar bulbs, especially for the elderly people who live in the area.

The solar light bulbs will not serve as lights, but they may be used as a cellphone charger.

“Residents struggle to buy candles and paraffin on a daily basis, especially the elderly people,” says Manana.

Veliswa Mpofu (46), a recipient, says she will be spared the many trips she had to make to have her cellphone charged.

“I walked to other extensions where there is electricity and paid R5 to charge my cellphone,”says Mpofu.

Ntsepeng Sekutlu (25) says she will no longer be scared to use the toilet at night, when the area is extremely dark.

“The bulb will serve as a torch for my family and I when we need to go outside at night,” she explains.

Manana hopes more bulbs may be donated, so that shack fires may be reduced in the community.
