Newborn found dead
Tsakane - The body of a newborn baby was found on Thursday in an open veld near Phelandaba Street in Extension eight.
Young boys passing through the veld saw the lifeless body and notified residents.
Resident Joyce Ramswelela (49) says she noticed something ‘odd looking that was giving off a bad odour’ but never thought it was a baby.
“I was so hurt when these boys told us there was a newborn baby lying there,” says Ramswelela.
The body of the baby was disfigured and was beginning to decompose.
Another resident, Nomsa Kunene (34), claims this is not the first time such a thing has happened in their neighbourhood.
She says another child was dumped in the area a while ago and was found dead.
“These brutal killings of newborn babies must stop in our community, it’s giving women a bad name,” says Kunene.
Capt Petros Mabuza of the Tsakane police says a case of concealment of birth will be opened and police will investigate the matter.
“Community members who may have any information regarding the case must come forward and assist the SAPS,” he says.
