Water channel is dangerous
Tsakane - Residents of Extension 13 in Mashinini Street have been complaining about a water channel that poses a danger to children who have to cross it to get to school.
It is alleged that four children have fallen into the water in the past and one child was killed.
According to residents, the water channel has been there since their RDP houses were built.
It becomes extremely dangerous when it rains and nothing has been done address the safety concerns.
Residents and parents have raised this issue with the area’s ward councillor since 2012 to no avail.
Concerned resident Dorah Sibiya (45) says she locks her gate so her children don’t go play outside.
“I fear that my children might fall in and die,” says Sibiya.
Ward councillor Silas Letsimo says he has addressed the issue with the Department of Roads and Safety.
“We are waiting for the department to come and sort it out,” says Letsimo.
