Parents protest outside local school

KwaThema -Parents of learners at Zamani Primary School are fed up of with the alleged mismanagement of the school.

A large number of parents were protesting outside the school on Monday morning.

The parents allege the principal has failed to address various grievances in the past, and are concerned about the lack of productivity at the school.

Concerned mother Nomasonto Komane (43) claims learners are not being taught during school hours.

She believes this results in learners not knowing the required syllabus when progressing to the next grade.

“Most high schools around KwaThema don’t want to admit learners from Zamani Primary School because they don’t perform,” claims Komane.

A number of parents, however, believe the principal is not entirely to blame for the school’s troubles.

“A through investigation should be conducted here at the school, so we know who the troublemakers are,” says parent Nomazizi Gumede (36).

Most parents were concerned that their children will miss out on school work during the protest.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is concerned about the disruption of teaching and learning at the school.

GDE spokesman Phumla Sekhonyane says officials met with the parents on Monday, and a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, next week, to resolve the matter amicably.

Teaching and learning has since resumed and there have been no further disruptions.
The school is being monitored by the SAPS.
