Motivating the youth

KwaThema - Resident Sphumi Mabena hopes to change the lives of one million young people.

Sphumi (37), a youth leader at the KwaThema Assemblies of God, left the country on Tuesday for London.

He is visiting London to motivate the city’s youth, and to learn how they defeat the challenges they face.

“As I do at home, I will spend a month talking to the youth about leadership skills and the advantages of staying positive, regardless of the circumstances in which they find themselves,” he says.

Growing up in KwaThema, Sphumi was involved in different gospel choirs and worked as a music conductor.

He realised as a teenager that he had a gift to change lives through motivation.

Sphumi wants to ensure that young people, especially those from the townships, are equipped with life skills.

His dream is to change the lives of at least one million young people from around the world.

“Being a young person, I believe that it is also my duty to ensure that the youth are ready to face and win the battle against any challenges they encounter,” he concludes.
