Job centre offers a helping hand

Duduza - The Lulaway Job Seekers Centre helps unemployed individuals to find jobs.

The centre is open to anyone seeking employment, and provides job seekers with easy access to employment through integrated online platforms.

Solly Mashako (32), an administrator at the centre, assists more than 80 people on a monthly basis.

“You get people aged 18 to 45 coming in,” he says.

A small fee is charged to be registered on Luluway’s database and an assessment test is then conducted.

This is done to identify an applicant’s skills.

Assessments are specifically tailored for the entry level market.

Literacy, numeracy and leadership are some of the skills tested in the assessment.

The centre not only assists the community of Duduza, but also Kwatsaduza as a whole.

“We also get people from KwaThema and Tsakane coming here regularly,” says Mashako.

The centre is an initiative of the Gauteng Provincial Government, in partnership with Ekurhuleni, Godisang Development, Cisco, Siyafunda CTC, Mentec Foundation and the MTN Foundation.

The centre differs from the traditional internet café, where people have to browse and visit different recruitment sites to find employment.

Once registered with Lulaway, your CV is accessible to employers across the country, making it easier for less privileged individuals to market their abilities.

Centre manager Happy Tshabalala (37) says she wants to see more people using the centre and becoming employed.

The centre’s objective is to be resourceful and known to the community of Duduza.
