Boxer aims for world glory

Langaville - Boxing is a sport Makhosonke Abrahams (26) believes can change a person's life.

Abrahams, a Langaville resident, has been boxing professionally since 2010.

He took up the sport when he was 11 years old and describes himself as a dedicated, great fighter who continues to beat the odds to stay healthy and active in the ring.

Abrahams says boxing has not only taught him self defence, but also respect for himself and others.

“Boxing is not like other sports, it teaches you about protecting yourself and can also be considered as a career,” he said.

Since boxing professionally, Abrahams has never lost a fight.

His last bout in the ring was against Nelson Ramonos at the Soweto Community Hall, on Saturday.

Abrahams won the fight by scoring more points than his opponent.

He says he always heeds the advice of his coach Themba Zulu, who told him when getting into the boxing ring he needs to forget about his challenges and focus on defeating the opponent.

He aspires to one day be a world boxing champion.

Abrahams encourages the youth to consider boxing and hopes the sport will be introduced into Kwatsaduza schools.
