Metro police arrest stolen car suspect

EMPD officers arrested a man in Tsakane following a high-speed chase on Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old man was nabbed at about 6am for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and failing to stop on instruction by a police officer.

The car, a white Dodge Caliber, was recently stolen during a night vigil in KwaThema.

According to the spokesman for the EMPD, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, Duduza precinct officers were on duty on the corner of the R23 and Old Alberton Road, ensuring the safety of cyclists participating in a race, when they noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle.

Officers tried to stop the car, but the driver sped off

“Following a high speed chase, the Dodge Caliber was cornered in Tsakane,” says Kgasago.

The suspect allegedly admitted to the crime.

KwaThema police spokesman Captain Mandla Phori confirmed the incident.
