AGAPE arts and performance group

Agape Arts and Performance Group is a new arts group hoping to cultivate the talent of young people in Kwatsaduza.

Founder Edgar Mahlaba says they started off last year in June practicing at a back yard of one of their mentors Sibongile Ntshangase before moving to a local church.

Mahlaba says the aim of the group is to create a platform for young people to express their talents and to keep them focused on pursuing their dreams.

According to Mahlaba he teaches his members money should not be what they are after but fulfilling their dreams.

“I started off Agape to empower the youth and in the future to be the biggest production group in Kwatsaduza,” hes says.

Group mentor, Humphrey Mabena says he shares his experience in theatre and television with the members of the group and teaches them hard work and commitment.

Mabena adds Agape is derived from the bible which means ‘the love of God for man and of man for God’.

Group member Smangele Ntshangase says the group teaches music, dance, spiritual dance, gumboots, comedy, drawing, acting and poetry.

“I have been taught life lessons by this group such as staying away from substance abuse and focusing on my dreams”, says Ntshangase.

In her conclusion she says even though they might be from a disadvantaged background the future is looking brighter for as long as they persevere.
