Tsakane Stadium officially opens

Mayor Mondli Gungubele officially opened the Tsakane Stadium on Saturday.

The multi-million rand stadium was opened in the presence of the community.

The newly renovated stadium, at a cost of R78-million, consists of a basketball court, softball field, netball court and a golf driving range.

Delivering the keynote address to the scores of Kwatsaduza residents who came to witness the official opening of the stadium the mayor acknowledge that the renovations of the stadium took a long time to be completed.

He also explained that the metro is renovating and building new sports facilities around Ekurhuleni to encourage the involvement of the youth in sport.

The mayor appealed to residents to take care of the facility and ensure that they use it for their sport activities.

“The construction of this sporting facility will turn around the lives of the young people of this township,” said the mayor.

MMC for sport, heritage, recreation, arts and culture, Zeni Tshongweni said she is happy that the community of Tsakane has access to a professional sport facility.

She believes the stadium will encourage young people to love sport at an early age.

“The development of greater sport starts in the townships,” said Tshongweni.

Community member, Joseph Nkosi said he is happy that the stadium has been officially opened.

“We needed the place to call our own where we will develop the talent of our children in sport,” said Nkosi.

He concluded by appealing to the coaches to use the stadium to develop and shine the young talents for the future.
