Bad smell causes dismfort
Most of the townships around Springs are faced with a challenge of illegal dumping.
It is a normal life that when the sunsets, super is prepared in every household and children play inside the yard, but the story is not the same for some of the residents in Geluksdal.
Those who live close to the biggest illegal dumping site situated next to the community swimming pool, not far from the church hall and an old age home, complain about an unbearable smell from the dumping site.
Beuliah Aboula whose home is a few meters away from the site said the smell is too much, to the extent that they struggle to eat.
“Our children have no freedom to play outside because the smell is blocking their noses which at times results in them experiencing difficulties breathing,” said Aboula.
She claimed that those who dump illegally next to their homes are people from the other sections of Geluksdal.
Aboula explained that the no dumping sign that the metro put in that area was stolen.
Annie van Schalkwyk said the filthiness in that area also puts their lives in danger.
“Because people dump dead dogs and rotten food near our homes we are worried about our health,” she said.
She appealed for the metro to intervene by punishing anyone who is caught dumping illegally.
