From a girl to a women empowers the youth

Non Profit Organization From A Girl to A Women hosted a campaign at Tsakane Secondary School on Friday.

Event coordinator Nomvuyo Sebeko says the aim of the organization is to empower teenage girls with social issues by finding sponsors for them for educational purposes.

Sebeko says they also provide counselling for the teenagers who are victims of any form of abuse.

She says the organization decided to look for a company who can sponsor sanitary towels to Tsakane Secondary school.

She explains Rheem SA Metal Packaging was more than willing to help the community by donating 200 packs to the local school.

According to Sebeko some of the girls skip school because they cannot afford sanitary towels

Director of Rheem SA, Ken Webb says as a company they decided to give back to the community and also says he encourages young girls to attain positive results so the company can help the youngsters further their education.

Sponsor Letta Khomalo says she was inspired by the idea because she was growing up in the 80s, running around the streets of Tsakane hiding her menstruation cycle  for eight months because she did not know it was normal to menstruate.

Khomalo during the event encouraged young students to rise above their situation because she was also in the same predicament a few decades ago and knows how poverty smells.
