Leaking geysers pose threat to residents
Residents at the KwaThema Hostel live in fear for their lives as many geysers at Block B in the hostel leak.
One of the residents at Block B at the KwaThema Hostel, Nkanyiso Ngubane said he had to make a plan to avoid sleeping on a wet bed every night.
He says the leaking geyser was a cause of discomfort in his room until he decided to use plastic bags to block the water that leaks from the geyser.
Ngubane explains that sometimes he finds himself having to warm water himself to get ready for work as the geyser is empty because of the leaking.
Hostel manager Mthakathi Gabela is worried that their lives are in danger.
He said in December they took one of the geysers out after they noticed that it was about to fall into the room.
“We took that geyser out because we feared that someone might get injured just like the man who was injured by a geyser few years ago,” said Gabela.
He appealed to the metro to replace or fix the leaking geysers before more damage is done.
No comment was received from the metro by the time of going online.
