Family’s shack burnt to ashes

The Mokoni family was left homeless after their shack was destroyed by fire on Saturday night.

Their home at Tsakane Extension 10 burnt to ashes as the neighbours’ help to stop the fire was overpowered by the angry flames.

The fire was allegedly started by a candle that was left unattended while burning.

Smoke that filled the shack is what awakened Florence and her 13-year-old boy who managed to escape through the window without injuries.

The family now depends on the mercy of their relatives for a place to sleep and food.

Their important documents such as ID books and birth certificates were burnt to ashes.

“The child’s school uniform and books also burnt inside the shack,” said community leader, Kenneth Manana.

However, life is expected to soon be back to normal for the family after receiving the material from the metro on Tuesday to rebuild their home.
