Learners get new school shoes

The African Catholic Church women's fellowship donated new school shoes to learners.

The 50 lucky learners who received brand new school shoes last Thursday are learners at Fred Habedi Primary School in KwaThema.

“We believe that if the nation is educated, no family will live in poverty,” said Johanna Ngele from the women’s fellowship.

She said it breaks their hearts to see children having to walk to school with their little feet touching the ground because their school shoes are not in good condition.

Ngele explained that some of the children from poor families quit school because their parents cannot afford to buy school uniforms for them.

She said the donation is part of the project of giving back to the community by the church, adding that it is also a way of building a relationship between the church and the children.

Ngele promised that the church will continue donating to the needy in the community.

The school’s HOD, Mapule Nyembe, thanked the church for the donation.

She confirmed that most of the learners at her school are from poor families, adding that the donation will not only help the children have shoes on their feet to school but will also help them improve on their studies.

“It is true that some of the learners are academically affected by their situations at home,” said Nyembe.

She then encouraged the learners to focus on their studies so that they can build their brighter future.
