Local poet and musician is aiming high

She says that, despite the challenges that exist in the industry, nothing will stand in her way of success.

Nosizwe ”Queen AbraConscience” Yolanda Mashifane (21) says she started her entertainment career in 2007.

Growing up in Duduza, Nosizwe always knew that her dream was to be an entertainer.

She completed her primary and secondary school education in Nigel, before going to Sedibeng College.

Nosizwe sings house, reggae, Afro soul and jazz.

It was in 2012 when she decided to go solo, as a musician and a poet.

Nosizwe says she gets the inspiration from her family and the people who love her music and poems.

She released her first single, Bantu Balelizwe and is also promoting her new album, titled Simplicity.

Talking about the challenges she encounters in her music career, she mentions not having enough finance and sometimes the jealousy that she gets from other artists and producers.

“It is not easy in the industry; to succeed one needs to chase after his dreams and ignore and fight the challenges,” she says.

Besides dreaming of being an international artist, one of Nosizwe’s goals is to visit schools, where she wants to motivate and encourage learners about education.

She reveals that when she is not busy with her music, she likes to spend time with her mother, to whom she refers as her best friend.

“Other than being a musician and a poet, I am also a bookworm,” says a smiling Nosizwe.

Giving a word of encouragement to the unemployed youth, Nosizwe challenged them to start dreaming and ensuring that their dreams become a reality.

To see her perform, catch her on Sunday, at the Duduza Multi Purpose Centre, from 11am.
