KwaThema Stadium fees worrying

Some of the teams in Kwatsaduza say they are worried about the cost of renting the KwaThema Stadium after the renovations.

Speaking on behalf of the metro, Lebogang Ramashala said the renovations have been completed, however, there are still various structural issues that require attention.

She said to use the stadium, the teams will pay a R1 060 per day rental fee with a refundable deposit of R2 130 and for non sports events such as festivals, the user will pay a R2 600 per day rental fee plus a refundable deposit of R53 000.

Ramashala explained that the stadium can only be handed over after various issues including occupational health, safety and other matters related to hosting events have been fully addressed in line with legislative requirements.

Innocent Mayoyo, founder of Ayoba, said he is worried that the fees to rent the stadium are too high.

“Some of the teams cannot afford to pay the amount and that may affect sport in Kwatsaduza,” said Mayoyo.

He added that he is worried because he will also struggle to pay for all of his SAB League games to be played at KwaThema Stadium.

He appeals to the metro for lower rental fees so that the teams in the township will also be able to play in a quality stadium in excellent condition.
