Painting home for the orphans

The Blessings Social Development Centre in partnership with ekfm spent their 67 minutes with a child headed family in KwaThema's Tornado section.

The children aged between five and 27 years had a reason to smile on Mandela Day following the repainting of their home, clothes and grocery donation that they received on Friday.

Speaking on behalf of Blessings Centre, Nelisiwe Soga said despite their role in the community of helping the needy, they wanted to also ensure that the children who live alone at their home do not feel neglected by the community.

She said the centre has made it its responsibility to ensure that the children do not struggle.

“The clothes donated to the family today were donated to the centre by its employees while others were donated by different organisations and companies,” said Soga.

Thamsi Nokwindla spoke on behalf of the family.

She thanked the work done to put a smile on the faces of the family on a Mandela Day.

“I know that you could have been doing other things to better your own lives but you decided to spend your 67 minutes with my family,” said Nokwindla.

She said the painting of their home brought back her family’s dignity and that the children will now be proud of their home.

“Because there is no source of income, we could not afford to paint our home,” sadly said Nokwindla.

She concluded by thanking Nelson Mandela who appealed to the citizens not to treat his birthday as a holiday but spent 67 minutes helping others.
