Soldiers clean Emmaus Centre

The Soldiers from Dunnottar cleaned the Emmaus Community Center on Friday

With everyone around the world doing something for the Mandela Day, Dunnotar soldiers cleaned the Emmaus Community Centre on Friday.

Cleaning the Emmaus Community Centre in Duduza was the way to spend 67 minutes for the members of the 35 Engineer Support Regiment sector.

On the day, the soldiers brought different vegetable seeds to plant to help the 625 that are being fed by the centre on a daily basis.

They also cleaned the centre’s windows, others helping the employees at the centre by peeling veggies to prepare launch for the children.

Speaking on behalf of the soldiers Captain Cynthia Zondo said following their visit last month at the centre, they noticed that the children were not safe when playing outside the hall.

“There were many big rocks outside that posed danger to the children,” said Zondo.

Sonia Malinga, centre manager thanked the soldiers for spending their 67 minutes with them, making better the lives of the orphans and the vulnerable children between the ages of four and 23 years at the centre.

Malinga also said it was the first time that the centre got a visit from the soldiers.

She said the soldiers’ visit did not only put a smile on the faces of the children but it also convinced some of them to choose to become soldiers as their career.
