Title deeds bring smiles

The smiles were written on the faces of the KwaThema residents who recieved their title deeds on Saturday

About 161 KwaThema’s Barcelona section residents received their title deeds on Saturday.

Residents filled the white tent that was at the Barcelona sports ground to witness the hand-over of the title deeds to the owners of the RDP houses in that area.

Delivering a key note address, metro’s chairman for human settlement oversight committee, Ndosi Shongwe advised the title deeds holders not to sell their RDP houses.

“No-one is allowed to sell an RDP house no matter how much the family struggles,” said Shongwe.

She further warned residents not to give their title deeds to loan sharks in exchange for borrowing money.

Shongwe explained the importance of keeping the title deed safe at all times.

“The title deed is the only document that lawfully shows that you own the house,” she said, adding that it is also the one important document that will help the next generation of one’s family to rightfully occupy the house even after the death of the title deed holder.

Joyce Mantombi Mbonani, one of the residents who got the title deeds said she had waited since 1994 for her title deed.

Mbonani said she was excited to receive the document that confirms her ownership of the house.

“I am happy to know that my children have a place that they call their home where no-one will force them out,” she said.

Ward councillor, Wilson Busakwe also advised the residents to ensure their title deeds’ safety at all times.

“Put it with other important documents and inform one person that you trust about where you have put it,” said Busakwe.
