Residents of Tsakane Old Age Home were treated to music, dancing and gifts during the family day on Saturday.
The day is part of annual activities included in the Age in Action calendar, an elderly council, to which the home is affiliated.
Social Auxiliary Worker, Phindile Fakude-Mashinini said one of the aims for hosting a family day, is for families to ‘give back love’.
Phindile added that they use such events to discourage the abuse of old people.
While relatives of some of the 31 residents of the home attended the event and brought gifts, other residents received gifts from some of the sponsors of the event.
One such sponsor was the Mashona VW Crew.
The crew arrived carrying gift bags with slippers, and various other winter items to keep the seniors warm.
Secretary of the crew Sithembiso Malinga said they became involved with the event to ‘ensure the residents don’t feel neglected’.
