New traffic lights in KwaThema

The new robots at the Corner Kgaswane and Majola streets in KwaThema will help reduce car accidents

According to Ward councillor, Thoko Radebe the robots were installed with the aim of fighting the scourge of car accidents taking place at this junction, and to prevent more to happen at these busy streets.

She said it took only two weeks to have the robots installed and that last week these robots were already functioning.

One of the senior citizens of KwaThema, Andries Mahlangu (74) said he is excited about the new robots in that area.

“Despite the fact that there are speed humps and stop signs in these streets, that was not enough as the reckless drivers did not reduce the speed on their cars when driving there,” said Mahlangu.

Adding that the speeding cars have caused many accidents which at times resulted in the death of innocent people due to reckless driving.

“Our grandchildren were not safe when going to school because of the drivers who do not obey the rules of the road,” said Mahlangu.

He continued to say that to ensure the safety of his grandchildren, he helped them cross the road every morning and afternoon as they were going to and from school.

He encouraged parents to continue putting the safety of their children first by ensuring that they teach them about the road crossing rules and ensure they understand the meaning of the different colours of the robots.
