Armed robbery in KwaThema

Armed and ready to shoot

A cash in transit robbery was pulled off by a trio, who came armed with an AK47 and hand pistols on Friday.

They pounced on SBV security guards, who had arrived to load money, at the Absa ATM next to Shoprite in Shabangu Street, KwaThema.

According to KwaThema police captain Mandla Phori, several shots were fired by the robbers, wounding two security guards on their legs, before disarming them.

The suspects then emptied the van and made their getaway in a white Vito, which was driven by a fourth suspect.

Phori said, “a case of armed robbery and attempted murder has been opened by police.”

He had a strong warning for the criminals, “we want those responsible for this crime to know that we are after them,” he said.
