Mayoral imbizo in Tsakane
Last Wednesday MMC Clr Bennett Nikani was in Tsakane to address residents during the Mayoral Imbizo held at Farranani Multi Purpose Centre.
Residents from Tsakane, Lendelani, Kwamkhancwa informal settlement and other areas of Brakpan were transported by buses to Farranani to hear about the development that the metro has delivered to their areas and also talk about the challenges that face in their communities.
Nikani talked about the Lungile Mtshali Community Development Plan Project where each ward will receive a R1- million aimed at developing the areas where they live while also fighting against poverty.
He said the metro will embark on Bontle ke Botho project, a project aimed at cleaning the parks.
“There are many projects that the metro will be embarking on to help create more jobs, especially for those who live in the townships,” said Nikani.
He added that the problem of rats in most townships and informal settlements in Ekurhuleni will soon be addressed.
He said the metro will employ people in a project to fight against rats for a period of 12 months.
Talking about what the metro has done, Nikani mentioned that many unemployed graduates were placed in internship programmes in different government departments and independent companies for a period of 12 months.
Nikani also mentioned that the metro understands that what they have done so far is not enough and that they will do all in their power to ensure a better life for all.
Given a chance to ask questions and talk about their challenges, Elizabeth Mkhosana from Kwamkhancwa informal settlement said people of that area live under bad conditions.
“Because we do not have electricity, some of the residents have been forced to do illegal connections which has led to many deaths in the area,” said a sad Mkhosana.
Among other challenges that were raised by Tsakane residents were those of not having proper sports facilities and that the grounds that they have, have been turned into driving schools’ testing grounds, 10 people sharing the same toilet at Tsakane Extension 10 informal settlement and a lack of schools for the blind in the townships.
Responding to the problems raised by residents, Nikani said a special meeting will soon be called to address all the problems raised, including those written on the pieces of paper that were issued to residents on which to write down their problems and express their views.
Hi, today we received letters from Brakpan Learner Transport Association, informing us that the transport is going up as from 01 April 2014. The letter also indicates that parents must pay full amount during school holidays. This becomes a concern, as winter holidays are three weeks. As parents are we really suppose to pay for that three weeks? and what will be gaining or receiving during that time, because the learners are on holidays.
