She loves scoring goals

When Lindiwe Nkambule (12) asked her brothers if she could join in their game of soccer, they refused to play with her.

However, that didn’t deter the Grade Six Dalpark learner, she sat on the sidelines, watched and learned how the game is played.

It wasn’t long before she started playing with boys around her neighborhood in Nyanyadu, KwaThema.

When they noticed her natural talent they informed their coach about her and he invited her for a trial, which she passed with flying colors.

She then joined the U11 and U13 Nyanyadu Juventus and is the only female player on the team.

Her talent was also noticed by Banyana Banyana coach Joseph “Skheshe” Mkhonza, who took her to the U11 provincial games of the SAFA legacy trust tournament, held late last year.

Her coach Pakiso Mokoena, says, “The whole team complains when Lindi is on the bench as she plays very well in attacking middle field.”

Pakiso, who also played soccer as a young boy, says Lindi reminds him of the former Banyana Banyana player Eudy Simelane, who gave them a tough time on the field.

“When you watch Lindi playing, you even forget that she is a girl, because she is so talented.”

However, for Lindi, the one thing she looks forward to most is scoring goals, which has become her speciality.
