Shoes at last for Ntokozweni learners

Walking barefoot about 5km barefoot to school everyday to seek education to build a better tomorrow, is yesterday’s story to 150 learners who are hungry for education.

The changing of the seasons did not steal the learners’ eagerness to learn. They walked long distances facing freezing weather.

They walked with their feet touching the ground as they did not have shoes in a good condition that could protect and keep their feet warm during the windy and cold mornings, especially during the winter season.

During summer, they had to deal with thunderstorms and heavy rains.

Receiving new shoes from the church did not only make the learners happy but parents’ hearts were filled with joy and happiness and they say they will always be grateful for ensuring that their children look like those who are from better families.

One of the parents, Dodo Mjoli, said he believes that the donation will also help improve their children’s academic performance.

“Coming from a poor family and not having what other children have,  affects the children’s concentration in class,” said Mjoli.

He said if the churches and businesses join hands in donating towards the education of the poor children, no family will live in poverty in this country.
Tirakgaloe Mjoli one of the  learners who received shoes, thanked the association for the donation.

She said despite the challenges that she is faced with, her dream of becoming a social worker one day will come true.

She said she believes that the difficulties of making ends meet that her parents are faced with are there to encourage her to value education so that he will not let any studying opportunities given to her, pass by.

Speaking on behalf of the church, Pastor Kabelo Makwetla said the donation is also a tool that encourages learners to see the importance of education.

He encouraged them to push until they prosper regardless of the problems that they have at home.
