Intuthuko Art Production invited to Europe

Intuthuko Art Production is a dance group from Duduza which specialises in gumboot dancing.

The eight member group, which was established in 2000, has been growing from strength to strength and has been invited to perform in Croatia in Europe.

Chairperson Mandla Maseko says they had a successful 2013.

“We scooped first position in all the competitions we entered including, Sibikwa Art Centre, Gauteng Dance Manyano and Zero to Hero.”

Intuthuko were also top 10 finalists of season three of the television programme, step up or step down.

However it was a competition held late last year in Midrand, that opened the door for the group to travel overseas.

They entered the SA Dance Star Competition, which was hosted by the European Dance Company.

Not only did Intuthuko win first position, they were also selected from their category to represent South Africa in the town of Porec, Croatia in May this year.

Mandla says they were so happy to hear that they had made it to the outside world, however their excitement was short lived, when they discovered they have to cover their own flight and accommodation costs.

“We need to raise R192 000 for all eight members, we have tried knocking on some doors but have not been successful, we appeal for any assistance,” said Mandla.
