Learners shine in oral competition

Kwa-Thema – Laban Motlhabi Comprehensive High School learners won at the Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition held at Brakpan Primary School last Tuesday.

The Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition is a national competition, taken place annually since 2006.
Each year, the competition is open to secondary school teachers and learners in Grades Eight to 11.

The competition aims to increase interest in history and encourage scholars throughout South Africa to engage with their shared history and explore their personal and community histories.

This project aims to acknowledge – in a significant way – the efforts of promising students and the dedication of their teachers.

The competition is a joint project between the Department of Education, South African History Online and the South African History Archive (SAHA).

SAHA is assisting in digitisation of the projects submitted by learners and teachers.

Bongani Manala was second in the Grade 11 competition, while Keketso Tau-Mhlambi won in Grade 10.

In addition, Tau-Mhlambi was first in the provincial level of the competition held on August 12 at Ingwe Lodge, Vanderbijlpark.

She will continue to the national leg of the competition in Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal, where she will represent Gauteng on August 23.
