Kwa-Thema’s WAMUA protest against the abuse of women and children

“We thought that since it is Women’s Month, we must address the issue of abuse against women and children.”

Kwa-Thema – Women Affected by Mining United in Action (WAMUA) Ekurhuleni held a peaceful march on Friday in Kwa-Thema to fight gender-based violence (GBV).

The group moved from Qedusizi Primary School to Majola Street and Kgeletsane Street. Men and women around Kwatsaduza attended.

WAMUA co-ordinator Molly Mbangula said the march was to help free women, break the silence and ensure women were heard.

“We thought that since it is Women’s Month, we must address the issue of abuse against women and children.

“We hope this platform gives women a chance to speak and voice their grievances about abuse and report their abusers to law enforcement,” she said.

Mbangula said they hoped to educate and give other women their voices back, knowing WAMUA was there to support them.

According to Mbangula, they wanted the community to be more informed on the issues around GBV coming from women themselves.

Flyers with relevant information were distributed during the event. You can find the WAMUA representatives on 67 Kheletsane Street, Kwa-Thema.
