The Sonqoba Simunye Men’s Burial Club celebrates Mandela Day at Mmuso Primary School

Medupe said Nelson Mandela loved children and donating to them felt like walking in the legend’s footsteps.

Duduza – The Sonqoba Simunye Men’s Burial Club observed Mandela Day by donating dignitary packs to the Grade Seven girls at Mmuso Primary School.

The club chose the school because one of its members is a teacher there.

Club deputy secretary Rammile Medupe said, “Mandela Day is all about giving back to the community.

“We took it upon ourselves to use this day to give back to this school because our late colleague’s wife is a teacher here and continued with her husband’s membership after he died.”

Medupe said Nelson Mandela loved children, and donating to them felt like walking in the legend’s footsteps.

The club wants this programme annually and to cover Ekurhuleni as a whole because they have members across the region.

School principal Titi Nhlapo expressed her appreciation to the club and said she was glad they chose the school.

“We are grateful to Joyce Sibindane for being part of the society because we are now a chosen school because of her.

Sibindane follows part of the education department’s pillars, which is involvement in the community, and that can help the school when working with the community,” she said.

Deputy principal Banele Mnyovu said he and other male teachers at the school would join the club.
