Man arrested for fraud and forgery

He is expected to appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court soon.

Tsakani – A 53-year-old motorist was arrested for fraud and forgery by the members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) on Sunday morning.

While conducting law enforcement duties, the officers spotted a suspicious silver Opel Corsa bakkie on Malandela Street.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said upon a full vehicle inspection and verifying details on the National Administration Traffic Information System (NaTIS) through the control room, it was discovered that the expiry date on the licence disc, displayed on the vehicle, does not correspond with the information portrayed on the system.

“When the officers questioned the driver concerning the irregularity, he could not provide a satisfactory explanation and was immediately placed under arrest.

“His car was impounded,” she said.

The officers handcuffed the suspect and he was taken to Tsakani Police Station where he was charged with fraud and forgery.

He is expected to appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court soon.
