Kwa-Thema also played a role in the June 16 uprising

The youth are invited to learn about the history of Kwa-Thema.

Kwa-Thema – The Deep Level Section community committee in Kwa-Thema will celebrate Youth Day on Saturday at the open space next to Masimini Primary School.

The committee chairperson, Elizabeth Mkhwebane, said, “We invite everyone to join us, especially the youth because we would like them to see how active senior citizens still are.”

Mkhwebane said they invited the June 16, 1976, generation from Soweto to Kwa-Thema to perform and share their experiences.

“People think the only participants on the day were in Soweto. They don’t know that we in Kwa-Thema also played a role that day. That is why we invite everyone to come and listen to our stories,” she said.

Senior citizens and disability groups will perform on the day.

The youth are encouraged to bring camping chairs and snacks. Chairs and snacks for seniors and disabled people will be provided.
