Duduza hijackers apply new modus operandi

The hijackers point firearms at the owner before hijacking them.

Duduza – Police are warning residents of a tactic applied by hijackers in the area, called ‘bump and take’.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said they noticed this new modus operandi after two cases of hijacking were reported in the area.

“In an incident on Sonnestral Road on May 22, criminals hijacked a VW Tiago with their BMW. They deliberately bump a vehicle on the rear or drive recklessly to cause the driver to stop to examine the damage or engage with them.

“The robbers then point firearms at the owner before hijacking them,” he said.

A similar case was reported on May 27, where the occupants of a BMW applied the same tactics to hijack another car.

Manaka added while the police are searching for these criminals, they warned the community to be careful and avoid stopping in secluded spaces.

“Instead of immediately stopping when another car bumped into you, drive to a safer area and then call for police assistance,” he added.
