Jobe Foundation remembers Vuyo Mokoena

The people of Duduza remember the fallen gospel Icon

Duduza – The Duduza stadium was a place to be as the Jobe Foundation honoured the late gospel legend Vuyo Mokoena on Saturday.

Fifteen years after his passing, his family, friends, colleagues and fans from Duduza and neighbouring places united to celebrate their undying love for him.

Mokoena’s daughter, Lerato Mokoena, said the event reminded her of the kind of person her father was and attending the event brought back memories.

“This was his life. It made me so emotional because the house is full and it shows that people still love and respect him even after 15 years of his passing.”

She further added she hopes that the other artists will follow in her father’s footsteps and practice what they preach as her father always did.

The president of the Jobe Foundation, Freddy Sithole, said, “Vuyo was one of our own from Duduza and we decided to have this festival to honour him and remind people that there once was a legend from Duduza.

“When we started this, we thought it was going to be only for a year, but the family said we could do it annually.”

He added they were doing this for Vuyo’s children, which showed that people had always wanted something like this.

The fans of the fallen legend did not keep to themselves about how they felt about celebrating the icon with his family and friends.

Nomsa Sondzaba said at the event, “I am happy that as Duduza people we took time to celebrate him and I hope his family will continue to celebrate him and keep his legacy alive.”

After keeping people on their toes during his performance, Sipho Ngwenya said it was an honour to be singing to celebrate Vuyo. He always admired him while growing up and said he was an inspiration to everyone.

“Being here means a lot because we are celebrating Jesus and also Vuyo who was an uncle to me. I always embed the things he taught me in everything. I will forever be thankful,” said Tumelo Matlala, a gospel artist.
