Sewage pump fixed in Kwa-Thema Ext 2

Residents are reluctant that the new pump will bring them relief from sewage flooding.

Kwa-Thema – The residents of Ext 2 will finally sleep peacefully, knowing that sewage will not be flooding their homes.

The damaged sewage pump has been replaced, allowing the system to function with ease. Ward 77 Clr Thulane Dunjana confirmed the pump was replaced on Thursday.

“We are hoping that it will bring the much-needed relief for the community of Ext 2,” he added.

The residents said the problem got out of hand in November when sewage started flooding their homes daily.

Driving into the area, one was exposed to the foul smell of sewage. Used sanitary pads, panty liners, human faeces and discarded condoms covered the streets and pavements.

Resident Bonginkosi Sithole said though the pipe has been replaced, he is reluctant to accept that the problem has been permanently resolved.

“We have been living with this problem for over seven years and whenever they promised it has been fixed, it starts again.

“We will only be relieved after three months of not experiencing a blockage. Then we will know that our sewage problem is over,” he added.
